This protects the inner mechanism of the screen barrel and offers a smoother manual operation. Without this, you need to guide the fabric back into the casing after use, but with a slow-retract screen you can pull it down and let go, and the screen will automatically roll back up into its casing. Whilst all manual pull-down screens are operated by the screen fabric being housed in a casing with a roller action, some of our projector screens have a built-in mechanism to slow down the retraction of the fabric when you have finished using the screen.
